SOAPx4 for PHP: "Dietrich Ayala

without comments

SOAPx4 for PHP: “Dietrich Ayala has come up with a cool set of scripts to support SOAP. It is released under LGPL. His code has the distinction of being the only PHP implementation that has passed the SoapBuilders Interop Group A tests.” (via PHPEveryWhere) ahah! Expect SOAP services on NewsIsFree soon ;-) (don’t hold your breath though) [Too Much News]

This weekend, I went to Borders to look for the O’Reilly book on XML-RPC.  I found it, but was dissapointed with the content.  I knew it already.  So, I checked out the brand new O’Reilly SOAP book, again…dissapointing.  This time because of their concession that SOAP is a developing standard.  I plan on developing some web-services for work in the near future.  For my $, I’m betting on XML-RPC as a winner, it’s easier to use.  The amount of information I want to pass to and from programs is pretty minimal, and entirely text based.  XML-RPC is perfect for the job.

Although I was disspointed that the XML-RPC book didn’t provide anymore information on the standard on top of what I already knew, it was kind of a good feeling, because it means the XML-RPC standard really is simple enough that a book seems like overkill.
