The Bill Byrne Archive

Published by Chris McAvoy at 11:13 pm under Blog

In January of 2001, Bill Byrne began a 6 month journey of discovery. He moved from sunny Florida to the cold streets of Chicago to pursue his dream of becoming an improviser. Like many young men and women with dreams, he ultimately failed, earning the title of, “Only Improv Olympic Performer to Submit Pornography as a Del Awards Bit.”

Kicked from the stage he loved, Bill fled back to Florida. Although traumatized, Bill has once again found his voice, teaching improv to at-risk youth in the wilds of central Florida. His story, collected in these 50 or so pages of journal, is the story of anyone who’s ever wanted something so bad they’d move to Chicago for it.

As the archivist of his journal, I invite you to read and enjoy.

The Improv Journal of Bill Byrne

“I started this journal as an exploration of my progress as an artist. A lot of people think of this as just ‘comedy’, but I think of it as an art. So, I want to share my ‘art’ with all of you. Hopefully we’ll all learn something in the process.”
