I’ve only used ODBC once, for class, and was pretty impressed. Not so much because it’s “easier”, but because you can treat an Excel spreadsheet like a SQL Database, or make Access more useful.
It’s cool that Python can use ODBC to its own ends. Nice.

Perfect! I’ve been looking for a SERVER based jukebox for a while. The trend is towards servers that stream to a client. I want a juke box that I control remotely. Great project. And it’s written in Python to boot. Awesome.

I haven’t worked with mod_python or mod_perl, but would like to, especially mod_python. Two interesting articles from O’Reilly:

I wonder though, if I’m not better served buckling down and learning more about J2EE. I recently installed Tomcat, but haven’t been able to get a hello world page to work.
It’s hard to decide which direction to head. The Python/Perl/PHP direction is more interesting to me, but the Java direction is certainly more “marketable”.

I hadn’t checked in a while, so this was kind of a surprise:
http://pywebsvcs.sourceforge.net/
SOAPpy and ZSI have both had some work done on them, and a “meta-project” has been created. Although I don’t see much use in using SOAP for Python-Python communication when XML-RPC is handled out of the box, it is good to have libraries that allow Python-EveryoneElse SOAP chats.

It looks like this has been out there for a while, but it’s still pretty cool. A bunch of commented PGN games on the Free Internet Chess Server. I’m really interested in improving my Chess. I keep getting my ass beat on WebChess.

Eric Raymond, never soft spoken, wrote an open letter to Sun last week, in which he advocates making Java Open Source. It’s something I strongly agree with, as I’m starting to like the language.

They had an ad on Slashdot. Despite the camo-lady in a chef hat “theme”, they seem like they could be a great half-way step between shared hosting and a dedicated server. http://www.globalservers.com/
