Thanks Doug Hellman
If you’re not reading his blog, you probably should be. His PyMOTW columns are really great. Python has a rich set of libraries, with lots of functionality that I don’t know about. Reading Doug’s blog has really clued me in to a few handy modules I didn’t know about. Thanks Doug.

Perl Not Dead
Great essay on the current state of Perl. Although Perl is dead to me, it isn’t dead. I don’t use Perl anymore, but I would, given the right circumstances. I’m a big fan of the Perl community, and their quirky love of all things $igil. Chicago has a pretty big Perl development market. My former employer Performics, has around 40 or so Perl folks chugging away on a large Perl based site. Perl is alive and well. It’s best not to count it out of the game just yet, or ever.

Django Pronunciation Giant War!
Oh man, the internet is ABLAZE with Django pronunciation flame wars!
Thanks Ian, for clearing that up. When people mispronounce Django, I suggest one of the following:
1) Say something else about Django, but pronounce it correctly.
2) Carry a print out of Ian’s post in your pocket. When a mispronunciation is heard, “accidentally” drop the paper on the ground. Ask the mis pronouncer to please pick it up. Then encourage them to read it, by pointing at it and winking.
3) Point at the offender, make eye contact with any other developer in the room, and shout loudly, “this ass face just said da-jango.”
That ought to clear that up.
Now to just clear up cache, pronounced “cash,” not “catch.” Jeeeeeeez.
