About

My name is Chris McAvoy, I live in Chicago with my wife, son and cat. This blog is mostly about programming, but occasionally strays into other topics. I’m particularly interested in open source programming languages, specifically Python. I’m a card carrying member of nearly every Chicago open source user group, and do my best to give back to the local geek community.  I’m also actively researching the life and works of the engineer who reversed the flow of the Chicago River, Isham Randolph, and his son (arguably Batman) Col. Robert Isham Randolph. I started ChiPy. I shoot arrows. I’m a founding trustee of the Chicago Awesome Foundation.

I work for the Mozilla Foundation, as product lead for the Mozilla Open Badges project, creating infrastructure for the growing badges in education movement.

This weblog is part of the Lonely Lion Empire. “But Chris,” you ask, “what’s up with the Lonely bit? You seem like a nice happy guy. What gives?” Yeah, totally. I’m very happy. Lonely Lion comes out of my obessesion with my zodiac sign (Leo! Roar!), and my love of alliteration. When I first thought of the name in 1998, it seemed cool. Around 2003 or so, I tried to switch it up and become wirelion.com, but it never really took. So now I think of Lonely Lion as a sort of tattoo I got when I was 22, and can’t remove. Please only giggle behind my back.

Me and Wil, getting excited and using the wrong finger to point to things that are awesome.

Hi Ben…sorry, I don’t have a backup of the old server. That thing ran on a rusty old system…it’s funny though, I was just telling someone about the server. It was a pretty fun game. Good luck getting one going!

Hey Chris– this is Bryan Basamanowicz, we met briefly in Chicago some years back while I was working on a company called The Social Imagination Project. I’m in Vancouver currently just over a year into a new consultancy called MPMC, Marijuana Paranoia Management Coaching, more info about MPMC and my book can be found at http://www.paranoidhuman.com

I’m contacting you because I recently came across a t-shirt design that I think many MPMC enthusiasts would respond to– after doing some research I found that it was produced by threadless — do you still work there?
